🧠 Smart Resume Tip: Boost Your Credibility with One Simple Addition

In the United States, universities carry serious weight. They’re not just places of learning—they’re powerful sources of credibility and respect.

So, what does that mean for you when you’re working on your American resume?

It means: If your experience is connected to a university—even indirectly—mention it.

Did you volunteer or work on a research project affiliated with a university? Don’t leave that connection out! Including the university name can instantly boost your credibility in the eyes of American employers.

Let’s look at an example:

🟡 OK: Covid Research Project, The Roslin Institute
🟢 Better: Covid Research Project, The Roslin Institute – The University of Edinburgh

Why is this better? Because your reader might not know what The Roslin Institute is—but they probably have heard of The University of Edinburgh. You’re giving your experience more context and weight by attaching it to a respected institution.

💡 Pro Tip: Even if the university wasn’t your employer, if the project was hosted, supervised, or connected to it, you can (and should!) include its name in your resume!
